Inspiring leadership

Mark Warner
Tuesday, March 27, 2:15–3:30 p.m.

If you want one year of prosperity, grow grain.
If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees.
If you want 100 years of prosperity, grow people.
—Chinese Proverb

The essence of inspiring leadership is not about the power; it's about growing people. As leaders, we can most effectively grow people through inspiration. Inspiration stirs our souls, drives action, and serves as a catalyst for transforming lives. The greatest leadership results are not power or authority based, but rather inspiration based. The key ingredients of inspiring leadership will be addressed during the keynote: living and leading with integrity, creating a shared vision, modeling and living your passion, being a servant leader, creating positive change, cultivating collaboration, nurturing innovation and making a difference in the lives of others.

Mark Warner is the senior vice president of student affairs and university planning at James Madison University. Warner earned his educational specialist, master's, and bachelor's degrees from JMU and has earned his doctorate from the University of Virginia. Warner is a professor of health sciences and currently teaches a leadership class at JMU.

Mastering Multitasking

Dave Coleman
Monday, March 26 2–4:45 p.m.

This session will teach important principles about setting realistic goals, assessing daily choices and decisions, how we divide up our time and how we prioritize our life. It is "controlled chaos" whereby each person works individually (yet also as a team) to successfully accomplish several complex tasks in a relatively short period of time without a loss of quality.

Several work/challenge stations will be set up, each with a specific purpose, with a few unexpected "variables" thrown in to provide a realistic and life-like atmosphere.

Most importantly, the participants will learn that to reach their goals, they must make them a part of their everyday routine and lifestyle. Laughter, success, and failure will provide a common bond that will change lives, perceptions, and habits, forever.
