Why Be Ordinary When You Can Be Remarkable?

David Coleman

Through David Coleman's travels, he's found that quite often, the primary difference between someone being "remarkable" as compared to "ordinary" is performing a common task uncommonly well. In this highly inspirational program, Coleman will explain how everyone can embody certain traits in their lives and use those skills to make a profound and meaningful impact on the world and people around them. Together, we will overcome barriers and leave them behind because a life lived in fear, is a life half-lived!

Known nationwide as The Dating Doctor™ and "America's Real-Life Hitch," Coleman is a highly sought-after speaker, entertainer, emcee, author, leadership trainer, retreat facilitator, as well as a radio and television personality. His most recent book, "Making Relationships Matter," has entered its second printing run, and his previous works, "Date Smart!" and "101 Great Dates," are well respected and continue to impact lives. Coleman had a story featured in the U.S. bestseller "Chicken Soup for the College Soul" and has been published in numerous publications including Us, Glamour, Celebrity Living, Mademoiselle, Women's World, Cosmopolitan, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and The New York Times.

Frances Lucas

President, Millsaps College

Presidential Perspectives on Higher Education and the College Union

Frances Lucas

Although we try to effectively share our story, sometimes we may still wonder whether or not our president understands the role of the college union. Frances Lucas is a college president who is passionate about higher education and who values the contribution of college union professionals. She will discuss the current state of higher education, some of the challenges that lie ahead, and how she believes the college union can be best positioned for the future.

Lucas's 25-year career in higher education is an illustration of opening doors and breaking barriers with grace. When she was named president of Millsaps College in January 2000, Lucas became the first female president in the college's 110-year history. Prior to taking the helm of Millsaps College, Lucas served Emory University as senior vice president for campus life, becoming the first woman to hold a vice presidential position in the history of the university and, at age 29, the youngest vice president for student affairs in the United States. Lucas was also the first female vice president at Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio, where she was named the college's Most Outstanding Administrator.
